Have you ever tried the Japanese bread that wowed Paul Hollywood in Japan? Even though it may look similar to bread in the UK, there is something unique and wonderful about Japanese baking.

HYPER JAPAN is proud to present a special Valentine's Day bread baking class co-hosted by Motoko from HAPPY SKY BAKERY – much beloved multi award winning Japanese Bakery in London - and Yuta from Ikigai Biscuit London - artisan baker & cookie icing decoration master.

In this fun and friendly class, Motoko will share her secrets of Japanese bread baking to make milk rolls that are just as fluffy and pillowy as you find them in Japan. You will learn to make chocolate ganache in the way Japanese love! To embrace this year’s Valentine’s Day, let’s write a message for someone you love and care about on your cookies. Yuta will share his tips and immaculate techniques with you and show you how to decorate and write your message using icing.  Make Valentine’s Day fun and unforgettable with this unique workshop!

Participants will need to prepare the followings in advance of the class.

Please be prepared 10 minutes before the class starts.

  • Bread dough: to finish first proofing prior to the class.
  • Icing for cookies: keep them in the fridge once made
  • Ingredients listed below
  • Equipment listed below

     (You will receive detailed instructions for the preparation of bread dough and icing prior to the class.)

    For Baking (You will receive a detailed ingredient list prior to the class):

    In the class, you will be making 8 milk rolls.

    1. Strong White Flour
    2. Water
    3. Eggs
    4. Milk
    5. Butter
    6. Yeast
    7. Salt
    8. Cocoa Powder
    9. Chocolate
    10. Double Cream

    For Icing & Cookie (Detailed instruction will be sent prior to the class):

    1. Round Biscuits ( e.g. Rich Tea/McVities - see attached photo )
    2. Water 
    3. Icing Sugar 300g
    4. Egg white 50g ( roughly from 1 L sized egg) 
    5. Food colouring (red & white/ivory)

    Equipment needed for the class

    Please prepare this equipment by yourself before the workshop starts.

    1. Bowls (large and small)
    2. Scale
    3. Worktable – flat surface to work on
    4. Scraper
    5. Towel
    6. Oven
    7. Microwave
    8. Baking Tray
    9. Baking Sheet
    10. Piping bags and/or squeeze bottles
    11. spatula or other kitchenware to lift up cookies
